Blues Women make history at NSW Sports Awards

The Westpac NSW Blues Women have become the first State of Origin team in history to be crowned the NSW Champions of Sport Team of the Year at the 2025 NSW Sports Awards held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney last night.

The event also included the induction of True Blue Ricky Stuart AM into the NSW Hall of Champions in what was a memorable evening for the NSW Rugby League.

NSW Blues Women’s coach John Strange and veteran forward Kezie Apps accepted the honour, after a 2025 series where the Blues reclaimed the Ampol State of Origin Shield 2-1 after wins at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane and Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

The achievement marks the first time that a NSW Blues team, men or women, have claimed the award since its inception in 1994.

They are the sixth Rugby League team to win the award along with Penrith Panthers (2003, 2022-23), St George Illawarra Dragons (2010), Wests Tigers (2005), Sydney Roosters (2002), and Newcastle Knights (1997).

The NSWRL congratulates the Westpac NSW Blues Women on their success in 2025, as well as Ricky Stuart for his service to Rugby League in NSW as both player and coach.
